Key Benefits

  • Cell level accuracy eliminates the costs and errors of a manually supported environment.

  • Cell level accuracy eliminates the need for drivers to push a button to confirm a container placement or movement. ContainerTrac's PDS is 100% automated and requires no driver intervention - drivers can drive!

  • Real-time inventory database allows yard-specific optimization algorithms to be developed to reduce wasted moves by 50%.

  • Terminals can become more dense; enabling inventories to increase from 4,000 containers per acre per year in a hybrid (stacked and wheeled) environment to over 10,000 containers per acre per year in a heavily stacked environment.

  • Street truck turn times will be improved by enabling container rotations from stacks to wheels throughout the day; rather than just predominantly out of hours.

  • Hardware appliance is simply retrofit onto existing vehicles and lift equipment and not onto the actual containers.

  • Transitions key employees with tribal knowledge of yard operations into a safer, control room environment.

  • Dramatically reduces in-yard injuries as marine clerks will no longer be required at every piece of lift equipment.

  • Enables Customs' personnel to immediately locate containers for inspection so as to not disrupt daily operations when boxes cannot be quickly located.

  • Container transfer at lift equipment is achieved by matching the accurate location of the two vehicles, and not through a suboptimal handoff using radio frequency, infrared, or sonar.

  • Integrates with Terminal Operating Systems (TOS) at the software level; typically using XML standard message sets.

  • Automatic capture of all container placements, even in temporary locations (aisle ways, roadways, unmarked slots or grids), with alerts for excessive dwell times.

  • Automatic capture of all container placements, even when drivers do not follow work instructions, (because the PDS captures where the box was put not where the operator was told to put it).

  • Automatic capture of all container placements, even when the gate or vessel generated container ID is incorrect, so that post processing and correction can occur at the database level (in the control room); minimizing physical yard visits to update the inventory records.

  • Storage and replay of all container and vehicle movements. These replays are in full motion (as opposed to snail trail) and they will identify operational and work flow improvement opportunities.

  • CHEs can be organized into work groups which will identify when drivers are out of queue (particularly UTRs lining up to receive containers from the stacks).

  • Automatic capture and storage of vehicle collisions for future replay and analysis.

Innovative Technology
The ContainerTrac PDS has received two patents and it has two patents pending. The unique and proprietary integration of GPS and INS science, along with other important software algorithms, allows ContainerTrac to achieve cell level accuracy under all yard conditions. This level of precision is born from automated vehicle science and not from typical supply chain tracking technology development using RFID or RTLS solutions which have proven ineffective for accurate in-yard container positioning.
