Position Detection System (PDS) - Overview
ContainerTrac's PDS enables--for the first time--cell specific position identification and immediate retrieval of containers while they are in port. This is estimated to increase the flow-through for yard operators by 23% and it will enable today's yard density to increase from 4,000 containers per acre per year to over 10,000 containers per acre per year by being able to more efficiently stack containers.

Automated gate and vessel systems are widespread and maturing, yet the actual container yard continues to be an area where ineffective and less than cell level accurate solutions have been deployed. Industry standard radio frequency identification systems that have been successful at gate and vessel operations are not capable of delivering the required accuracy for yard positioning which is where ContainerTrac fits into an operator's technology architecture.

There is a significant science gap between the accuracy of "identification" systems and "positioning" systems, and ContainerTrac believes its patented hardware appliance with embedded software finally gives operators the ability to automate the inventorying function of the yard because our cell level accuracy captures a container's exact location in both decked and wheeled operations.

ContainerTrac's hardware appliance is simply retrofit onto all yard vehicles and lift equipment so that no new vehicles need to be purchased. Each hardware appliance is equipped with wireless communications so that positioning updates can be provided over a wireless local area network up to twice per second. These updates are then processed on-site in ContainerTrac's non-stop, fault tolerant server clusters which have fully redundant servers in ContainerTrac's data center.

ContainerTrac's partner for wireless communications is Cisco Systems, and we are proud to be members of their Advanced Technology Partner program and their Strategic Technology Integrator program. Cisco supports ContainerTrac by designing meshed or non-meshed wireless LANs and by creating intelligent communications aboard each yard vehicle. This intelligent communications capability enables positioning information to be sent in real-time and it also provides for additional vehicle-based applications such as VoIP, video surveillance over IP, and other location-based services.

ContainerTrac's partner for non-stop, fault tolerant computing is Hewlett-Packard, and we are proud to be a member of their DSPP partner program. HP's server cluster on site includes a mirrored application and database server design with a fully redundant server cluster in ContainerTrac's data center. Local and/or networked storage options are available.
